45th ANNUAL KEN BELL TRACK & FIELD INVITATIONAL Hosted by Traverse City Central High School

Named in honor of Mr. Ken Bell, 1928 graduate of Central High School, retired Sports Editor of the Traverse City Record-Eagle and long time Trojan Track & Field fan and official. In 1968, it was his idea to run our Elementary All-City Track & Field Meet on a track in front of the bleachers at Thirlby Field. From that grew today's Elementary

All-City Track & Field Program that has affected the lives of thousands of kids. For the last 42 years over 1,000 athletes from 26 elementary schools compete each spring in this great sport.

Upon his retirement, Ken became THE high jump judge at all home meets. For over twenty years, rain or shine, he watched as hundreds of young men and women sailed over the bar as he added a few words of encouragement. Each spring, for the last 44 years “The Most Outstanding Trojan Track and Field Athlete” is awarded the Ken Bell Award. We honor him by naming this meet the Traverse City KEN BELL INVITATIONAL.

Ken passed away on March 31, 2006 at the age of 95. His life was rich and we remember him as a person that loved the sport of Track and Field and liked nothing better then to watch a great race or field event competition.

ENTRY DEADLINE: 6:00pm Thursday, May 6.
THREE ENTRIES IN ALL EVENTS PER SCHOOL except RELAYS IN 2021.

Scratch Meeting: The scratch meeting will be completed by 12:00 noon. Please plan your schedule to be here by the start of the scratch meeting. At the meeting you may drop/substitute an athlete. The meeting will be conducted in the Track Building near the flagpole. Events will not be reseeded after the scratch meeting No prelims, all events are finals.

WARNING - 11:00-1:30 Get your shoes tagged at the Track building!!!

ALL SHOE SPIKES WILL BE MEASURED - 3/8” PYRAMID is maximum

Shoes not tagged will be Illegal to use on runways and track.

NO TAG means you may not use that shoe – SPIKES will be available @ $3 per 16 spikes in a packet near the Track Building

The warm up area will be outside of the stadium. No warm ups on the infield.

HEAT & LANE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE FOUND OUTSIDE THE STAGING AREA FOR RUNNING EVENTS AT THE NORTH END OF TRACK.

KNOW YOUR EVENT, HEAT and LANE ASSIGNMENTS prior to ENTERING THE CHUTE AREA!!!!!

Clerks will assist you in the chute at the end of the front straightaway. This will be the STAGING area for all events except the 200m and the 300m (they will clerk at the respective starting lines).

Field Events: CHALK ONLY – NO TAPE!!
Shot Put – (Girls first) 4 throws in flights - 2 and 2, no finals
Discus – (Boys first) 4 throws in flights – 2 and 2, no finals.
Long Jump – (Boys first) 4 jumps Open Pit, no finals – 2 Hour time limit!
High Jump – (Girls first ) Girls start at 4'4”, Boys at 5'4” ( 2” raises until 8 left)
Pole Vault – (Boys first) Boys start at 10’0”, raises TBD, , Girls at 7’0” (6” raises til 5 left then 3”)

SCORING - 10 -8 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 – 2 - 1 (8 places)

MEDALS AWARDED - All events 1st – 5th place

TROPHIES : Top 3 Teams in Boys/Girls

Medals will be picked up at North side Press Box Entry after the meet.

RESULTS on Athletic.net immediately after the meet.

TEAM SCORING and RESULTS will be posted on the outside bulletin board west wall of the Track Building for your convenience.

All Canopies must be set up on the perimeter area of the track between the fence and the track or near bleachers around press box.

COACHES/ATHLETES - STAY AWAY FROM THE INSIDE EDGE OF THE TRACK (10 yard Rule)
