ONSITE Mandatory Testing For Athletes!

JUNIOR OLYMPICS COVID TESTING UPDATE- 07/26/21: ONSITE Mandatory Testing For Athletes

Please be advised, the State of Florida has just released a new COVID-19 Weekly Situation Report for the week of July 16 to July, 22, 2021. Unfortunately, the new case positivity rate for the entire State of Florida has again increased to 15.1% (up from 11.7% the week prior). The new case positivity rate for Duvall County (Jacksonville) has also increased to 25.7% (up from 21.9% the week prior).

USA Track & Field (USATF) takes athlete and participant safety very seriously. As a result, USATF will continue following the recommendation of its COVID-19 Working Group and will now require on-site, upon arrival, testing for all competitors (and anyone else accompanying said competitors through packet pickup), independent of vaccination status. These tests will be rapid COVID-19 PCR tests and will be provided at no cost.

Additionally, based on the high local COVID-19 positivity rate and the high transmissibility of the Delta variant, it is important that all meet participants carefully follow protocols designed to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This includes physical distancing, mask wearing in indoor spaces and in crowded outdoor spaces, and frequent hand washing. Your cooperation is appreciated in doing your part to assist USATF in its efforts to secure the safety and well-being of all USATF athletes.

July, 19, 2021

We would like to thank you for entering the 2021 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships.

Due to the high number of event entries, we have re-opened athletic.net to allow coaches to make scratches until Thursday, July 22nd at 11:59pm EST. This will be for scratches only. You will not be able to facilitate any other function.

Obtaining scratches early will allow us to consolidate heats and also provide the most accurate time schedule possible.

Please note, refunds will not be issued for any athletes scratched from an event. All invoices were marked final at the close of entries.

We are committed to providing the best experience for our athletes. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Travel safely and we look forward to welcoming you to Jacksonville on our road “Back 2 Track”.

July 19, 2021 - COVID Testing

Dear USATF Junior Olympics athletes, coaches and parents:

We are looking forward to seeing you next week in Jacksonville! The safety and well-being of all USATF athletes, parents, coaches and staff are at the core of everything that we do. So, with that in mind, we have an update for the COVID testing protocols for the 2021 USATF Junior Olympic Championships being held July 26 - August 1.

JUNIOR OLYMPICS COVID TESTING UPDATE:  PCR tests are the only tests accepted; Antigen tests not accepted.

According to the USATF event hosting guidance, the positivity rate in the county where the meet is being held must be < 5% for antigen tests to be accepted as required by USATF's COVID-19 Working Group of medical and scientific experts to mitigate risk.  For the week of July 9 to July 15, the Florida Health Department reported:

COVID-19 new case positivity rate of 11.5% for the entire state of Florida

COVID-19 new case positive rate of 21.9% for Duvall County.

Therefore, participants who are not fully vaccinated and therefore need to be COVID tested for the JO meet in Jacksonville will need to produce a negative PCR test result. The negative PCR test result must be within 7 days of the participant’s competition date during the 2021 Junior Olympic Championships in order to compete. No tests dated earlier than July 19, 2021 will be accepted.  Antigen tests will not be accepted.

Thank you for your attention and compliance with this very important protocol.

Safe travels!

USATF National Office

UPDATE: July 10th message from the USATF National Office:

All registrants will be accepted, regardless of seed time.
Seeding for all events will be random.

Due to the high number of entries and the addition of semi-final rounds, we encourage coaches to review your entry prior to the closing date. Please make necessary scratches prior to the entry deadline. This will also allow us to provide a more accurate time schedule.
There will be no on site late entries.

Please click THIS LINK to read the guidelines (note: seed times are no longer required)

If you have questions about the guidelines, please contact the USATF National Office: chelsea.yeadon@usatf.org
